Private driver in Astana by the day
A private car with an English-speaking driver in Astana costs from $160 for the whole car for a day of 8 hours and 200 km: $160 for a sedan, $200 for a minivan, $250 for a Land Cruiser-class 4x4 and $330 for a 16-seat Sprinter. Fuel, parking and waiting time are included, and any extra hours are quoted before you book. Astana is a city of wide avenues, long distances between buildings and, from November to March, temperatures that make walking between them a bad idea, so most business visitors find a driver who waits outside each door the simplest way to get through a day of meetings.

How much does a private driver in Astana cost per day?
One price for the whole car, not per person. The day is 8 hours from pickup and up to 200 km, far more distance than a day inside Astana needs: even a full loop of meetings on both banks of the Ishim plus a sightseeing hour rarely passes 120 km.
| Car | Guests | Day: 8 h / 200 km |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Toyota Camry or similar) | up to 3 | $160 |
| Minivan (Hyundai Staria / Toyota Alphard or similar) | up to 6 | $200 |
| 4x4 (Land Cruiser Prado / 300) | up to 4 | $250 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | $330 |
Included: the English-speaking driver, fuel, city parking, waiting between appointments, bottled water and child seats on request. Not included: museum and observation-deck tickets and your meals. If the day might run past 8 hours, for example a late government dinner, say so when you book and we quote the extra time up front so the bill matches the quote. If you only need the ride in from NQZ, the fixed Astana airport transfer from $45 is the better buy, and the driver day can start straight from arrivals.
Why hire a driver for business meetings in Astana?
Astana was laid out for cars and for ceremony, not for pedestrians. The distances between the places business visitors actually go are longer than they look on a map: from the Astana International Financial Centre on the former EXPO site to the ministries around the House of Ministries and Ak Orda presidential palace is about 7–8 km, and from there to banks and offices on the Right Bank another 6–10 km across the river. Ministries and state companies such as Samruk-Kazyna, KazMunayGas and the national railway are spread along these axes, each with its own security gate and visitor pass desk.
Taxi apps work, but in a day of five meetings you will order, wait for and explain the destination to five different drivers, and on a winter evening when everyone leaves the office at 18:00 the wait can stretch to 20 minutes. With a driver for the day:
- The car waits outside each building, engine warm, with your bags and documents locked inside.
- Your driver knows which gate of a ministry campus visitors use and where cars may stop; several government streets do not allow waiting.
- If a meeting overruns, nothing needs rebooking; the next leg simply starts later.
- The same driver can finish the day at the airport or Nurly Zhol station with your luggage already on board.
For delegations we combine cars, typically a 4x4 or sedan for the principals and a minivan or Sprinter for the team, coordinated on one WhatsApp thread. Ask when booking if you need documents for your company's expense claim.
Can my driver take me to EXPO, AIFC and conference venues?
Yes, and these are the commonest drop-offs. The EXPO 2017 site in the south of the Left Bank now houses the AIFC and its court, the Astana Hub tech park, the Hilton hotel, the Congress Centre and Nur-Alem, the 80-metre glass sphere that was the Kazakh pavilion and is now a museum of future energy over eight floors. It is 15–20 minutes from the airport and 10–15 minutes from Baiterek.
During big events, such as the Astana International Forum, government congresses or sports fixtures at Astana Arena, police close lanes and set up security perimeters around the venues, and drop-off points move at short notice. A local driver who reads the Russian-language traffic notices and knows the back approaches is worth having on those days. If several of your group arrive at different times, a minivan can loop the airport and the hotels while the sedan stays with you.
What can I see in Astana in a day with a driver?
Astana's sights sit along one grand axis on the Left Bank, which makes a half-day with a driver efficient. A classic order that works in any season:
- Baiterek — the 105-metre tower of a golden egg in a poplar tree. A lift runs up to the observation sphere, where you can lay your hand in the gilded print of the first president's palm. Entry was 2,000 ₸ in 2025. Go early on weekdays; weekend afternoons queue.
- Nurzhol Boulevard — the axis itself, from Ak Orda palace at one end to Khan Shatyr at the other. Your driver drops you at one end and collects you at the other, which in January is the only sensible way to see it.
- Khan Shatyr — Norman Foster's 150-metre transparent tent, a mall with an indoor beach resort on the top level that stays tropical while it is −30 °C outside.
- Hazret Sultan Mosque — one of the largest mosques in Central Asia, white with turquoise domes, on the far bank of the Ishim. Entry is free; women cover head, shoulders and knees, men avoid shorts. Avoid Friday midday prayers.
- Palace of Peace and Reconciliation — Foster's glass pyramid next to the mosque, with an opera hall and exhibitions (1,000 ₸ in 2025).
- National Museum of Kazakhstan — the largest museum in Central Asia, with the Golden Man and Golden Hall of steppe gold (about 700 ₸ for the basic ticket in 2025).
- Nur-Alem at EXPO — the glass sphere, with a view from the top floor and interactive energy exhibits.
Baiterek, Khan Shatyr, Hazret Sultan, the pyramid and the National Museum fit in a relaxed 5–6 hours including lunch; add Nur-Alem for a full day. Opening hours and ticket prices change; check before you go. If you want commentary rather than just transport, add a local guide from $100 a day. For a day out of town, the pine forests and granite lakes of Burabay are 3 hours north, and about 40 km west, near the village of Akmol, the ALZhIR memorial museum stands on the site of the Gulag camp for wives of "traitors to the motherland"; it fits into a driver day with a city half-day.
What is Astana like in winter, and does it affect a driver day?
It changes everything. The January average is around −15 °C, nights of −30 °C come most winters, and the steppe wind is relentless; locals joke that the city has two seasons, winter and July. Snow lies from November to early April. On those days a 400-metre walk from a car park to a ministry entrance is a real ordeal in a business suit, and standing on a kerb waiting for a taxi is genuinely unpleasant.
What we do about it: our cars run on winter tyres from autumn to spring and are warmed up before pickup; your driver drops you at the door, not the car park; and between meetings the car stays running so you never get into a frozen seat. Inside the city, roads are cleared fast and almost never close.
Outside the city it is a different matter, and we would rather tell you plainly. Several times each winter a buran (blizzard with blowing snow) closes intercity highways around Astana to all vehicles, sometimes for 12–24 hours; on 16 December 2025 the Astana–Shchuchinsk road towards Burabay was shut from km 18 to km 232 from mid-morning to the next day. If your driver day includes a trip out of town, we check KazAvtoZhol notices and the forecast the evening before and the morning of, and suggest a city programme instead if a closure looks likely. Flights at NQZ can be delayed by the same weather, so leave slack before an evening departure.
Can I hire a driver for several days or a multi-city trip?
Yes. A week of meetings is usually booked as consecutive driver days, often with the same driver, which helps once he knows your routine and your colleagues' addresses. Many visitors combine Astana with Almaty, the business capital in the south, 1,200 km away; most people fly that leg (under 2 hours) and book a private driver in Almaty on arrival. If you want one car across the country, see the Kazakhstan private driver page, where the driver's lodging and meals on overnight trips are included in the price.

Questions
How much is a private driver in Astana per day?
From $160 for the whole car for 8 hours and up to 200 km with an English-speaking driver: $160 for a sedan, $200 for a minivan for six, $250 for a Land Cruiser-class 4x4 and $330 for a 16-seat Sprinter. Fuel, parking and waiting are included; extra hours are quoted before you book.
Can I hire a car with driver in Astana for business meetings?
Yes, it is the most common use. Your driver waits outside each ministry, bank or the AIFC at the former EXPO site, keeps the car warm and your bags inside, and adjusts if a meeting overruns. Delegations can combine a sedan or 4x4 for principals with a minivan or Sprinter for the team.
What are the main sights in Astana to visit with a driver?
Five to six hours covers Baiterek tower (105 m, about 2,000 ₸ in 2025), Nurzhol Boulevard, Khan Shatyr, Hazret Sultan Mosque, the Palace of Peace pyramid and the National Museum. Add the Nur-Alem sphere at EXPO for a full day. Your driver drops you at each door, which matters in winter.
How cold is Astana in winter?
Around −15 °C on average in January, with nights to −30 °C and strong wind. City roads stay open and are cleared quickly, but blizzards close intercity highways several times a winter for 12–24 hours. A driver who drops you at the door and keeps the car warm makes winter meetings much easier.
Does the driver speak English?
Yes, an English-speaking driver is included on every RideKZ booking at no extra cost. For detailed commentary at museums and monuments, a separate local guide can join from $100 a day. Your driver's name, phone and number plate arrive on WhatsApp the evening before.
Can I book a driver in Astana for a day trip to Burabay?
Yes. Burabay is about 240 km and 3 hours north on a toll motorway, so it is booked as a separate Burabay day trip with tolls included rather than a city driver day. From November to March blizzards can close that highway, so we check the road the evening before and move the date if needed.
