Almaty airport to Bishkek: private transfer from arrivals
Almaty airport to Bishkek is about 260 km and 4.5–5 hours including the Korday border, from $200 for the whole car with an English-speaking driver. It is the standard way into Kyrgyzstan for long-haul travellers, because Almaty has far more direct international flights than Bishkek's Manas airport and the drive takes about as long as a connecting flight would. Your driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with a name sign and gives you 90 minutes free after landing. Pickups between 23:00 and 06:00 add $20.

Why do so many travellers fly into Almaty for Kyrgyzstan?
Because the flights are there. Almaty International Airport (ALA) handled more than 11 million passengers in 2024 and is the hub of Air Astana, with direct services to Istanbul, Dubai, Doha, Delhi, Seoul, Bangkok and a fast-growing list of Chinese cities. In 2026 the airport added Warsaw (from May) and a seasonal Cyprus service, with Tokyo announced for later in the year. Bishkek's Manas airport is much smaller and its network leans heavily towards Russia, Turkey and the Gulf, and Kyrgyz airlines have for years been on the EU air-safety list, so there is little non-stop service to Western Europe.
In practice that gives you three ways to reach Bishkek from London, Frankfurt, Seoul or Singapore:
- Fly to Almaty and drive. One ticket to ALA, then 4.5–5 hours by car. Often the cheapest fare and the widest choice of times.
- Connect to Manas. A second flight (usually via Istanbul, Dubai or Almaty itself), a second check-in and another 25–30 km into the city. Door to door it rarely beats the road.
- Open-jaw. Fly into Almaty, spend time in Kyrgyzstan, fly home from Almaty again. Kyrgyzstan itineraries that end at Issyk-Kul or in the Tien Shan often loop back via Almaty, and our Bishkek to Almaty airport transfer is timed backwards from your departure.
Schedules change every season, so treat the route list as a snapshot of October 2026 and check your own dates.
How does the pickup at Almaty airport work?
- Send your flight number when you book. The driver tracks it live and plans for the actual landing time. Delays cost you nothing.
- Get the driver's details the evening before: name, WhatsApp number, car model and plate.
- Clear immigration and baggage. International flights use Terminal 2, opened in 2024. At night passport control is quick; at the morning peak, when several wide-bodies land together, it can take 40–60 minutes.
- Meet your driver in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. The first 90 minutes after landing are free, which covers even a slow baggage belt.
- Walk to the car park and go. Water is in the car, and the driver will stop at an ATM or SIM desk in the terminal if you need one.
Ignore the drivers offering "taxi, Bishkek" in the hall. Unlicensed cars are not cleared for the international route and some will simply drop you at the border. Our Almaty airport guide covers terminals, SIM cards and money in more detail.
What if I land in Almaty at night?
A large share of long-haul arrivals reach ALA between midnight and 6:00: the Gulf, Istanbul and many European connections are timed that way. You have two good options.
Go straight to Bishkek
The border is open 24/7 and night queues are usually the shortest of the day. A typical example: land at 02:30, out of the terminal by 03:30, at Korday around 06:30, through both posts by 07:15 Almaty time and at a Bishkek hotel around 08:45 Bishkek time (Kyrgyzstan is one hour ahead). The $20 night surcharge applies to pickups between 23:00 and 06:00. Ask your Bishkek hotel for an early check-in or book the room from the night before; otherwise you may sit in the lobby until 14:00.
Sleep in Almaty first
Better if you have been flying for 15 hours, are travelling with small children, or it is December to February, when the Korday pass can be icy and foggy before dawn. Take a short airport to city transfer (from $40), sleep, and continue with an Almaty to Bishkek transfer after breakfast. In winter we may recommend this ourselves.
How long is the drive from Almaty airport to Bishkek?
Allow 4.5–5 hours on a normal day. The airport sits on the north-eastern edge of Almaty, while the Bishkek highway leaves the city to the west, so your driver crosses the northern districts on the ring roads rather than driving through the centre. At night that takes 25–30 minutes; on a weekday between 8:00 and 10:00 or 17:00 and 19:30 it can take an hour.
- Kaskelen, ≈45 km from the airport. Large fuel stations with clean toilets. Highway widening between km 19 and km 27 started in July 2026, so expect lane closures here.
- Uzynagash, ≈80 km. Roadside cafes for tea, samsa and a proper break.
- Korday pass, ≈200 km. A low pass around 1,100 m: harmless in summer, the only place where winter fog and ice matter.
- Korday checkpoint, ≈240 km. Then about 20 km to central Bishkek.
Stops on request, up to an hour in total, are included. On summer Friday evenings and before Kazakh long weekends the car lane at Korday can add 1.5–2 hours; that is the one variable we cannot remove.
Is it normal to enter Kazakhstan and leave it three hours later?
Yes. Border officers at Korday see airport-to-Bishkek travellers every day, and a fresh Kazakh entry stamp followed by an exit stamp raises no questions. At the checkpoint you walk through both passport halls while the driver takes the car and your luggage through the vehicle lane and collects you on the Kyrgyz side. The step-by-step and queue patterns are in our Korday border guide.
- Kyrgyzstan. US, UK, EU, Australian, Japanese, Korean and many other passports enter visa-free. Since 31 December 2025 that group may stay 30 days within any 60. Indian and Chinese citizens need a Kyrgyz e-visa or visa; Ak-Zhol is among the land posts where the e-visa is accepted.
- Kazakhstan on the way back. If you will fly home from Almaty, count your Kazakh visa-free days across the whole trip. A few hours in transit on day one still counts as an entry.
- Keep your passport on you, not in the suitcase in the trunk.
What if my Manas flight was diverted to Almaty?
It happens more often than people expect. On 18 December 2025 dense fog at Manas sent about 15 flights to Tamchy, Tashkent and Almaty, and on 7 July 2026 Manas closed for several hours after a runway incident and inbound flights from Moscow and Novosibirsk landed in Almaty instead. Airlines usually wait and fly passengers on once Bishkek reopens, which can take a day. If you would rather drive, message us on WhatsApp from the terminal with your name, the number of people and bags; we confirm the nearest available car, usually within the hour in daytime. The price is the same as a booked transfer, and you can be dropped at your Bishkek hotel or at Manas airport if your luggage is still there.
How much is the transfer, and what is included?
Fixed prices per car, not per person:
| Car | Guests | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Sedan (Toyota Camry or similar) | up to 3 | $200 |
| Minivan (Hyundai Staria / Toyota Alphard or similar) | up to 6 | $260 |
| 4x4 (Toyota Land Cruiser Prado) | up to 4 | $290 |
| Mercedes Sprinter | up to 16 | $390 |
Night pickups between 23:00 and 06:00 add $20. Included: an English-speaking driver, meet and greet, flight tracking, 90 minutes of free waiting, fuel, tolls, parking, waiting at the border, stops up to an hour, child seats and ski or board bags. The car is cleared for international routes, so the same car and driver take you all the way. Pay the driver in Bishkek in US dollars, tenge or som, cash or card; no deposit. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before landing. Going to Manas airport for an onward flight instead of the city? Ask for the same price; allow at least eight hours between landing at ALA and departing BSZ. Heading straight to the lake? See Almaty to Issyk-Kul by car, or the Kyrgyz side of the trip on ridekg.com. All routes are on the price list.

Questions
How much is a transfer from Almaty airport to Bishkek?
$200 for a private sedan for up to three guests, priced per car. A minivan for six is $260, a Land Cruiser Prado $290 and a 16-seat Sprinter $390. Pickups between 23:00 and 06:00 add $20. Meet and greet, flight tracking, 90 minutes of waiting and an English-speaking driver are included; you pay the driver in Bishkek.
How long does it take from Almaty airport to Bishkek?
4.5–5 hours for about 260 km, including the Korday border. Night drives are usually faster; summer Friday evenings can add 1.5–2 hours at the border. Bishkek is one hour ahead of Almaty, so leave the airport at 10:00 and you arrive around 15:30 Bishkek time.
Is it better to fly into Almaty or Bishkek?
4.5–5 hours by road from Almaty airport to Bishkek is about the same door-to-door time as connecting to Manas, and Almaty usually wins on everything else: far more direct international routes, including Europe, Korea and the Gulf, often lower fares, and no second check-in or missed connection. Fly into Bishkek only if a non-stop goes there.
Can I go straight to Bishkek after a night arrival in Almaty?
Yes: 24/7 opening at Korday means you can leave the terminal at 3:00 and be in Bishkek by about 8:30 Bishkek time. The $20 night surcharge applies to pickups between 23:00 and 06:00. In winter, or after a very long flight, we often suggest a night in Almaty and continuing after breakfast.
What happens if my flight to Almaty is delayed?
0 extra charge. The driver follows your flight number and arrives for the real landing time, then gives you 90 minutes free. If the flight moves to the next day, we reschedule without a fee. Just keep your WhatsApp on after landing so the driver can find you quickly in the arrivals hall.
Can you take me from Almaty airport to Manas airport for a connecting flight?
Yes, $200 for a sedan, the same as to the city. Allow at least eight hours between landing in Almaty and departing from Manas (BSZ): immigration, about five hours of road and border, and two to three hours for check-in. Send us both flight numbers and we will confirm whether the connection is realistic.
